Ear reshaping for children and young people
In November 2025 I became the first surgeon in UK or Ireland to be accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons to exclusively perform ear reshaping surgery in children and young people.
Pinnaplasty, also called otoplasty or ear pinning, for those aged over 7 and under 18.

After a stressful search of trying to find a doctor that would carry out the procedure of otoplasty (pinnaplasty - ear pinning surgery) for our child we are delighted to say we found Dr Goswamy and his team. I cannot tell you how much we appreciate him and his team. Right from the offset he and his team were friendly, they made us feel at ease the whole time. They kept us up to date all the way prior, throughout and even after surgery. The operation was short and painless and a massive physical improvement. My daughter was worried prior and had plenty of questions. Dr Goswamy made her feel at ease and answered every question. He delivered his promise and she looks amazing. How it works
The four appointments
- First consultation
A full assessment of ear anatomy and medical history, and an honest conversation about outcomes, limitations and risks. £280.
- Second consultation
Free of charge, face-to-face or virtual. Time to reflect, ask the questions that surfaced afterwards, and decide without pressure.
- Surgery
At a hospital with dedicated paediatric nurses and a dedicated paediatric ward. Bandage removed at a review 5 to 10 days later.
- Follow-up
A six-week appointment, and a further review at three months if it is clinically useful. All included in the package.
Why I wait until seven
Before about age seven the ear cartilage is very soft, and getting an excellent, predictable result is harder. That is the technical reason.
The more important one is this: pinnaplasty is a life-changing operation, and while a child is too young to consent for themselves, I want them to be the person driving it, not their parents and not me. When it is genuinely their decision, they take the post-operative care regime seriously, and the three of us go on the journey together. That is why the second consultation is free and why nobody is asked to decide on the day.

The challenges were asymmetry with prominent pinna lobules and a subtle difference in concha bowl depth. The scars have since faded to skin colour.

Questions
Questions parents ask
Will the ears be perfectly symmetrical?
No, and I won’t promise that. Perfect symmetry cannot be guaranteed, and minor asymmetry is normal and commonly present in nature, including in ears that have never been operated on. The aim is to improve ear position and contour while keeping the result looking natural, and individual outcomes do vary. I’d rather say this at the first appointment than have anyone discover it afterwards.
How do you decide whether my child is ready?
Alongside the clinical assessment, I look at emotional maturity, how well they understand what’s involved, and whether surgery is genuinely in their best interests. If a young person is being brought along rather than leading, I’ll say so, and we’ll wait. That’s a safeguarding responsibility, not a formality.
What standards is this care held to?
All care is delivered in accordance with General Medical Council guidance, Care Quality Commission standards, and Royal College of Surgeons recommendations.
